When to do the Pet Microbiome Test

Recurring gastrointestinal problems

In case of diarrhea in the dog, diarrhea in the cat, vomiting, abdominal pain, weight loss, loss of appetite are lasting or recurring.

Antibiotics

After long or recurring therapy with antibiotics or other drugs such as omeprazole and NSAIDs.

Monitoring

Track changes in the microbiome, such as before and after a diet trial or other treatments that modify the microbiome.

Drugs have an effect on the microbiome and vice versa, primarily antibiotics, but not only.
 Bacteria can sequester or transform drugs into metabolites, with important consequences on the composition of the microbiome, availability and response to the drug, side effects.Studies on drug-bacterial interaction are only in their infancy (Nature 2021).

How does the microbiome test work?

- A small part of fecal material is taken and sent to the laboratory.

- The technicians isolate and "read" the DNA of the bacteria contained in the feces.

- You get a photograph of "who is there and how much there is".

- The level of dysbiosis is estimated by comparing the profile with a population of healthy animals.
